Crankshaft Thrust Bearing Set for Mazda Engines
Why this part is needed
This thrust bearing set controls crankshaft endplay (axial movement). It keeps the crank centered under clutch load, protects the block and main bearings, and prevents flywheel and timing misalignment. The result is smoother shifting, quieter idle, and longer engine lifeβvital during rebuilds or clutch service.
How it works οΈ
Precision half-rings sit on the thrust faces of the main bearing cap and saddle. A durable anti-friction layer rides on an oil film, creating a slippery surface that absorbs axial force when you press the clutch or the transmission loads the crank. Correct endplay ensures consistent oil clearances and stable ignition and valve timing.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Worn thrusts allow crank walk: clutch shudder, metallic scraping, hard gear engagement, erratic idle, and rear main seal leaks. Severe wear can let the flywheel rub the block, damage the crank position sensor, or seize the engineβexpensive and dangerous.
Tech tips
- Measure endplay during install; select correct thickness if required.
- Clean mating faces, oil the surfaces, and torque to spec.
- Use clean engine oil on first start; verify clutch free play.
