Front Wideband Air‑Fuel Ratio Sensor for Mazda SKYACTIV

Why this part is needed

This upstream AFR (oxygen) sensor tells the ECU how rich or lean the exhaust is so it can keep the mix near 14.7:1. The result is smooth power, lower fuel use, clean emissions, and a protected catalytic converter. It also stabilizes cold starts and throttle response, keeping your Mazda running like new .

How it works

Inside is a heated zirconia wideband cell. It compares oxygen in exhaust to a reference and generates a precise current. The ECU reads this signal and adjusts short‑ and long‑term fuel trims in real time. Mounted before the catalyst, it reaches temperature fast and tracks mixture during idle, cruise, and acceleration β›½.

What happens if it’s broken

Expect check‑engine light, rough idle, flat spots, high fuel consumption, and failed emissions. A stuck‑rich or stuck‑lean signal can overheat or poison the catalytic converter, leading to costly repairs. You may notice fuel smell, dark exhaust, or hard starts. Replace early to save the cat and restore economy ⚠️.

Fit and install notes

Direct‑fit plug, heat‑resistant lead, and corrosion‑proof body. Install on a warm but safe exhaust, don’t touch the tip, use sensor‑safe anti‑seize if needed, tighten to spec, clear codes, and perform a short drive so the ECU relearns trims.
