Why you need it ️
Engines work best at a specific heat range. This part cuts wear during cold starts, improves fuel economy, and prevents overheating. Correct temperature also protects oil viscosity and reduces carbon build-up.
How it works ⚙️
A wax capsule senses coolant heat. When cold, the valve stays closed, recirculating coolant inside the block for fast warm-up. Around 88–92°C it opens progressively, directing flow to the radiator. A calibrated spring and tight EPDM seal keep flow steady under load. Stainless frame resists corrosion for long service life.
What happens if it’s broken
Stuck open: slow warm-up, high fuel use, weak cabin heat, possible P0128 code. Stuck closed: quick overheating, boiling coolant, warped head, blown gasket. Other signs: unstable gauge, leaks at housing, rough idle. Replace with new gasket, refill with FL22 coolant, bleed air, and verify fan/radiator operation. ✅
