AC Expansion Control Valve ?οΈ
This air conditioning control valve is a key piece in the refrigerant circuit. It is needed to meter the exact amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator, so the cabin cools fast, stays stable, and the compressor is protected from liquid flood-back.
How It Works ?
The valve creates a pressure drop between the high side and low side of the AC system. As refrigerant passes through, it expands, becomes colder, and then absorbs heat inside the evaporator. The valve reacts to temperature/pressure changes to keep the evaporator from freezing and to maintain steady cooling during idle, traffic, or highway driving.
When It Fails ?
A sticking or blocked valve can cause weak cooling, vent temperature swings, evaporator icing, noisy compressor operation, and abnormal high/low pressures. If it leaks internally, the system may short-cycle, overwork the compressor, and eventually lead to compressor damage and contaminated refrigerant lines.
