Reliable Cam Timing Feedback Sensor βš™οΈ

This engine sensor is needed to tell the ECU the exact position and speed of the camshaft. With this signal, the car can control fuel injection and ignition timing accurately, and on many engines it also helps manage variable valve timing. When the ECU knows where the cam is, the engine starts faster, runs smoother, and keeps emissions under control βœ…

How It Works

The unit reads a trigger wheel or cam target as it rotates and converts that movement into an electrical pulse. The ECU compares this cam signal with the crankshaft signal to confirm correct timing, cylinder firing order, and valve phase position. This constant feedback allows stable idle, clean acceleration, and proper power delivery.

If It Fails

A faulty sensor can cause hard starting, stalling when hot, misfires, poor fuel economy, weak acceleration, and an illuminated check engine light. In some cases the ECU may enter limp mode, disable variable valve timing, or struggle to synchronize injection, leading to rough running and higher emissions.
