Camshaft Timing Gear ⚙️

This OEM-grade sprocket keeps the camshaft and crankshaft perfectly in sync, locking the timing chain to precise valve events. Proper timing gives fast starts, smooth idle, strong mid‑range, clean emissions, and better fuel economy .

Why you need it

Accuracy of the teeth and bore controls valve timing at all RPM. Inferior or worn gears cause timing drift, chain noise, and uneven running. This unit uses hardened steel and a factory tooth profile to cut wear, reduce rattle, and stabilize cam phasing.

How it works

The chain rides the gear teeth. As the crank turns, the gear drives the cam at half speed, keeping valve lift matched to piston position. Correct mesh lowers tensioner load and keeps the chain on track.

What happens if it’s damaged ❗

Expect cold-start rattle, rough idle, loss of power, misfire codes, and poor fuel use. If a tooth wears or the chain jumps, you may see no‑start, backfire, or even valve‑to‑piston contact on interference engines. Metal flakes in oil are a red flag.

Tech notes

Replace as a set with chain, guides, and tensioner when possible. Align timing marks carefully, use a new bolt with threadlocker, and torque to spec. Prime with fresh oil and verify cam/crank correlation after the first heat cycle.
