Engine Oil Pickup Strainer (Oil Pan Screen) οΈ
This part is needed to keep the engineβs oil supply clean before it reaches the oil pump. It sits in the sump and acts like a first-line filter, stopping sludge, gasket bits, and carbon deposits from being sucked into the pump. A healthy strainer helps the engine maintain stable oil pressure, especially on cold starts and hard acceleration.
How it works βοΈ
Oil flows through a fine metal mesh screen. The mesh allows free oil flow while trapping larger contaminants. The oil pump then pulls screened oil and sends it through the lubrication system to protect bearings, camshafts, turbo (if fitted), and timing components.
What happens if itβs clogged or damaged β
A blocked screen can cause low oil pressure, ticking lifters, slow VVT response, turbo starvation, and in worst cases bearing spin or total engine seizure. A cracked or loose pickup can suck air, creating foamy oil and pressure drop.
