Why your vehicle needs this part
This small sensor keeps your headlamps aimed correctly when the car is loaded or the road surface changes. It protects oncoming drivers from glare, improves night visibility, and helps you pass safety checks. In many Mazdas, the lighting control relies on this unit to keep the beam level and legal.
How it works ⚙️
Mounted on the rear suspension, a short link arm tracks the ride height. Inside, a precise position element sends a 0.5–4.5 V signal to the leveling controller. The module then moves tiny stepper motors in the headlamps to set the beam angle. The housing is sealed against water and road dirt, and the connector is keyed for a secure fit.
What happens if it fails ❗
Typical signs: auto-level warning light, headlamps pointing too high or too low, uneven cutoff line, stored fault codes, and possible AFS disable. Night driving becomes tiring and unsafe, and inspection may fail. In severe cases the system locks in a safe position and reduces lighting performance.
Fitting tips
Bolt the bracket at ride height, do not twist the link, use dielectric grease on the plug, and perform leveling calibration with a scan tool if required.
