Engine Oil Pickup Strainer οΈ
This part is a key guard for your engineβs lubrication system. It sits in the oil pan and screens the oil before it enters the oil pump. Its job is simple: keep sludge, gasket bits, and metal dust out of the pump and oil galleries, so clean oil can reach bearings, camshafts, and timing components every second the engine runs.
Why your engine needs it β
Modern Mazda engines run with tight clearances. Even small debris can score the pump, block oil passages, or starve the top end. A healthy strainer helps maintain stable oil flow, proper oil pressure, and quiet, smooth operation.
How it works
Oil is drawn through a fine mesh screen. The screen traps larger contaminants while allowing full volume flow to the pump. During oil changes and correct service intervals, it stays clear and efficient.
What happens if itβs clogged or damaged β οΈ
A blocked screen can cause low oil pressure, ticking lifters, VVT issues, warning lights, and rapid bearing wear. A torn mesh may let debris into the pump, leading to pump damage and possible engine seizure.
