Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT) for Mazda Engines

Keep mixtures precise and starts clean with a reliable intake air temperature sensor. This small but critical probe sits in the intake tract and constantly informs the ECU about the temperature of incoming air, so fuel, timing, and idle stay optimized in every season.

Why this part is needed

Accurate air temp data lets the ECU calculate air density, delivering smooth cold starts, stable idle, strong mid‑range power, better fuel economy, and lower emissions. It also helps prevent knock and protects the engine under hot under‑hood conditions.

How it works

Inside is an NTC thermistor. The ECU supplies a 5V reference and reads the return signal. Colder air increases resistance; warmer air lowers it. The ECU blends this signal with MAF/MAP to set injector pulse width and ignition advance with precision.

What happens if it’s failing ⚠️

  • Check Engine Light (often P0112 or P0113)
  • Hard cold starts, rough idle, stalling
  • Hesitation, flat spots, weak throttle response
  • Rich or lean running, fuel smell, poor MPG
  • Increased emissions and fouled plugs

Install tips βœ…

  • Unplug connector, release clip/screw, pull sensor straight out
  • Replace O‑ring, seat fully, avoid sealants and oil contamination
  • Inspect wiring for brittleness; clean contacts with electrical cleaner
  • Clear codes and road‑test to confirm stable readings

Built for long service

OEM‑grade thermistor curve for Mazda ECUs, corrosion‑resistant pins, correct tip length for fast yet stable response in the intake stream.
