Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor for Mazda
This front wheel speed sensor is a key safety part for the ABS system. It is needed to measure how fast the wheel is turning and to help the car keep grip during braking, especially on wet or loose roads. When ABS works right, you can steer while braking hard instead of locking the wheels.
How it works βοΈ
The sensor reads a toothed ring (or magnetic encoder) near the hub and sends a speed signal to the ABS control unit. The module compares all wheel signals. If one wheel slows too fast, it commands the hydraulic unit to pulse brake pressure in milliseconds to prevent skid.
What happens if it fails β
If the sensor is broken, dirty, or the wiring is damaged, the ABS light may turn on. ABS and traction features can stop working, braking distance can increase on slippery roads, and some cars may show speed/DSC warnings. In severe cases you may feel irregular ABS activation or no ABS help at all.
Why replace it in time
A fresh sensor restores correct wheel data, stable braking control, and safer emergency stops. Always check the connector, cable routing, and hub area for rust or debris during installation.
