Engine Main Bearing Set for Mazda I4 ⚙️
This set supports the crankshaft so it turns true, keeps oil pressure stable, and reduces friction. You need it during an engine rebuild, to cure low oil pressure, or to stop main knock after high mileage. Fresh shells restore factory oil clearance and protect both block and crank from wear.
How it works ?️
Half-shell bearings sit in the block saddles and caps. A steel-backed, tri‑metal or aluminum‑tin surface rides on a thin oil film. Oil grooves feed the journals; as the crank spins, a hydrodynamic wedge floats it, preventing metal contact. Correct crush and locating tangs lock the shells in place. Available in standard and oversizes for polished or ground journals.
When it fails ?
Cold-start knock, low oil pressure, copper showing, glitter in oil, rising temps, or a spun shell. Ignored, it can score journals, seize the crank, and scrap the block.
Pro tips ?
Measure with Plastigage, match sizes per journal, clean oil galleries, align feed holes, use assembly lube, and torque caps in sequence. Check thrust endplay and line-bore. Break in with quality oil ?.
