Front Steering Tie Rod for Mercedes G-Class

On a solid front axle G-Class, the steering tie rod is the hard-working link that keeps both front wheels pointing where the steering box tells them. It’s needed to maintain correct toe angle, stable tracking, and predictable steering feelβ€”especially on heavy SUVs that see off-road shocks and wide tires.

How it works

The rod connects the left and right steering knuckles. Through its ball-joint ends, it transfers movement while still allowing suspension travel and axle articulation. When you turn the wheel, the rod pushes/pulls the knuckles so both wheels steer together. Alignment is set by adjusting length, locking it in place so it won’t drift.

When it’s worn or broken ⚠️

A loose or damaged unit causes steering play, wandering, and uneven tire wear. You may hear clunks over bumps, feel vibration, or notice the truck pulling. If a joint fails completely, you can lose steering controlβ€”dangerous on-road and a nightmare off-road.
