    Engine Coolant Thermostat — OE-Spec Cooling Control

    Why you need it ❄️

    This small valve keeps your engine at the right temperature for power, economy, and low emissions. It speeds up warm‑up after a cold start, prevents overheating in traffic, and protects costly parts like the head gasket, radiator, and water pump. Stable temperature also gives better cabin heat and consistent ECU fuel trim.

    How it works ⚙️

    Inside is a wax‑pellet actuator. When the engine is cold, the valve stays closed, recirculating coolant through the block for fast warm‑up. As coolant reaches the rated temp, the wax expands and pushes the valve open, sending flow to the radiator. A calibrated spring ensures smooth, gradual control. Many units include a bleed pin to purge air. Corrosion‑resistant frame and a molded seal stop leaks.

    If it fails

    Stuck open: slow warm‑up, poor heater, high fuel use, rich running, possible code P0128. Stuck closed: rapid overheating, boiling coolant, hard hoses, risk of warped head. Erratic action causes temp swings and rough idle. Replace with a new gasket, clean housing, torque evenly, refill with correct coolant, and bleed air.
