    Diesel Coolant Temperature Sensor for Toyota Engines

    This small sender reads engine water temperature and tells the ECU what the coolant is doing. On a Toyota diesel, it’s a key input for fueling, glow plug time, fan control, gauge reading, and emission strategy. A healthy sensor keeps starts clean, power smooth, and temps stable.

    Why you need it ❗

    Accurate coolant data helps the ECU set cold-start enrichment, injection timing, idle speed, and EGR. It also triggers the radiator fan and protects the engine from overheating. Without a correct signal, the system guesses—and guesses cost money and parts.

    How it works ⚙️

    Inside is an NTC thermistor in a sealed brass body. As coolant warms, resistance drops. The ECU reads the voltage across the sensor and converts it to temperature. Threaded into the water jacket or housing, it reacts fast and feeds a stable signal under all loads.

    • Hard cold starts, rough idle, and black smoke

    Tech notes and fitting tips ️

    Test with a multimeter: resistance should drop as temperature rises. Install on a cool engine, use the correct seal or washer, and torque to spec (typically 15–25 Nm). Clean the connector, avoid overtightening, and bleed air from the cooling system.
