Door Check / Hold‑Open Stopper ️
Why this part is needed
This small but vital unit keeps your door steady at preset positions, preventing slams and over‑travel. It protects hinges, wiring looms, mirrors, and paint edges, and makes entry safer in wind or on slopes. A fresh stopper restores smooth, confident door control and quiet cabin feel.
How it works
A hardened steel arm with detent notches slides through a spring‑loaded friction block inside a compact housing. The housing bolts to the A‑pillar; the arm connects to the door via a pivot pin. As you open the door, the detents create stable “steps” (first, mid, full). Proper lubrication keeps movement smooth and silent.
What happens if it’s broken
The door won’t stay open, may swing shut or fling wide. You’ll hear pops, clicks, or grinding. Travel feels stiff or jerky, paint can chip at the edge, and hinges/brackets may crack. In severe cases the door hits the fender or stretches the rubber loom—leading to costly body and electrical repairs.
Quick install notes
Direct‑fit geometry, corrosion‑resistant finish, low‑noise polymer liners. Swap in minutes: support door, remove pin and two bolts, fit new unit, align, torque fasteners, and add lithium grease. Keywords: door check, door stay, door stopper, detent strap.
