Why you need it οΈ
Without a correct thrust washer, the snap ring cannot sit at the right depth, the hub clutch may not center, and the axle can move in/out. That movement turns into noise, poor 4WD engagement, and fast wear of expensive hub parts.
How it works βοΈ
When the hub is assembled and torqued, the washer spreads load evenly across the hub face, sets end float, and locks the axle stack in place. This prevents micro-walk of the CV stub, keeping bearings, seals, and the freewheel hub synchronized under load.
What happens if itβs broken or missing
Expect click/clunk on take-off, intermittent 4WD, brake pad knock-back, metal dust in the cap, and accelerated wheel bearing wear. Off-road, the hub can disengage under torque, risking CV damage and seal leaks.
