Engine Oil Pump Pickup Strainer
This small but critical screen sits at the oil pump inlet and keeps sludge, gasket bits, and carbon flakes out of the lubrication system ️. The engine needs it to maintain clean, steady oil flow so bearings, camshafts, and timing parts stay protected under load.
How It Works
Oil in the sump is drawn through the mesh. The screen traps debris while allowing enough volume for the pump to build pressure. A clean strainer helps the pump prime quickly after start-up and reduces the risk of cavitation at high RPM.
What Happens If It’s Clogged or Damaged
If the mesh blocks up or the pickup cracks, the pump can starve. That means low oil pressure, noisy lifters, knocking, overheating oil, and rapid wear. In severe cases, it can lead to spun bearings or complete engine failure .
