Engine Crankshaft Thrust Washer Set β Controls Axial Play βοΈ
This precision set keeps your crankshaft centered, preventing harmful foreβandβaft movement (end float). It protects the block, main bearings, and rear main seal, and keeps clutch and timing loads from pushing the crank out of alignment. If you want smooth idle, clean shifts, and long engine life, this small part does big work.
Why itβs needed
Manual clutch pressure, torque converter thrust, belt and gear loads all try to move the crankshaft. These washers absorb that axial force and maintain factory end play so the oil film stays stable and journals stay true.
How it works
Two halfβmoon thrust faces mount at the thrust main (often the center main). Their bearing overlay rides on pressurized oil, forming a lowβfriction surface with grooves to feed lubricant and shed heat.
What happens if itβs worn or broken β
Crank walk, metallic glitter in oil, clutch drag, hard shifting, noisy idle when pressing the pedal, rear main seal leaks, and misaligned pulleys. Left alone, it can score the crank, drop oil pressure, and destroy the block.
Tech notes β
Measure end float with a dial indicator and select the correct thickness. Fit clean and dry to the saddle, oil the faces, and verify within spec after torquing the main cap.
