Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor

🛠️ This small electronic sensor sits inside the front passenger seat and tells the car if someone is sitting there. It is essential for correct airbag and seat belt warning operation, helping the safety system decide when to arm or limit the passenger airbag during a crash.

Why This Part Is Needed

The safety control unit needs an accurate “seat occupied” signal. Without it, the vehicle may not know if the passenger seat is empty, carrying a person, or holding a light object like a bag.

How It Works

⚙️ The sensor reads pressure/weight changes in the seat cushion and sends a signal to the SRS/airbag module. The system then switches the passenger airbag status and supports seat belt reminder logic.

If the Sensor Is Broken

❗ A faulty unit can trigger an airbag warning light, cause the passenger airbag to stay OFF/ON at the wrong time, or create intermittent chimes and warning messages. In many cases, the car may store SRS fault codes and fail safety self-checks until the issue is repaired.
