Why you need it 🔧

The valve controls superheat, preventing evaporator icing and liquid returning to the compressor. Correct metering means stronger cooling at idle, quicker pull-down after start, and reliable performance in hot climates or humid conditions.

How it works

A sensing bulb monitors evaporator outlet temperature/pressure. That signal acts on a diaphragm to open or close a needle/seat, increasing flow under high heat load and restricting when superheat drops. The result is balanced low-side pressure and efficient heat exchange.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Stuck closed: weak/no cooling, low suction, warm vents, hissing. Stuck open: evaporator icing, fluctuating vent temps, compressor chatter, high fuel use. Leaks leave oily residue and gradual loss of charge, risking compressor damage.

Service tips

Replace receiver/dryer, use new O-rings, torque lines correctly, evacuate 30–45 min, charge by weight, and leak-test. Flush if there’s compressor debris.
