Why you need it

How it works

When 12V reaches the coil, a magnetic field pulls the drive plate against the pulley. Friction locks them together, turning the compressor shaft. Switch off, the field drops, the pulley freewheels on its bearing—no drag, no extra fuel burn 🔋.

What happens if it’s broken

Warm air, intermittent cooling, no “click,” burnt smell, belt squeal, or metal dust near the pulley. A shorted coil may blow fuses; a seized bearing can shred the belt and leave you without steering or charging.

Tech notes 🔧

Set the air gap with shims, keep faces clean, and torque the center fastener correctly. Verify coil resistance, relay, and ground. Align the belt and spin-test the pulley before final run-up.
