Why you need it

This clamp locks the universal joint bearing caps to the differential or transfer case yoke. It keeps the propshaft centered, transfers torque without slip, and stops play that creates noise and wear. On lifted or off‑road vehicles, a solid retainer is critical to handle shock loads and vibration.

How it works

The shaped steel strap hugs the U‑joint cap. When you tighten the two bolts, it applies even pressure across the cap and seats it firmly in the yoke. Proper clamping prevents micro‑movement, maintains alignment, and protects the joint needles and seals. Quality steel and anti‑corrosion finish ensure long service in dirt, water, and road salt.

What if it’s damaged or missing

Expect driveline vibration, a metallic clunk on take‑off, and visible cap creep. Continued use can oval the yoke ears, overheat the U‑joint, and in extreme cases the driveshaft can detach—causing loss of drive and severe damage to the diff or transfer case.

Tech tips

• Install on clean yoke seats; caps must sit flush.
• Use new bolts with medium threadlocker; torque evenly to spec.
• Replace straps in pairs on the same joint.
• Inspect U‑joint, yoke ears, and seal surfaces while there.
