Engine Knock Detection Sensor Assembly

This sensor is a key safety part for modern Suzuki petrol engines. It “listens” to abnormal combustion (knock/ping) that can happen from low-octane fuel, heavy load, overheating, or carbon buildup. When the ECU knows knock is starting, it can protect the engine before damage happens ️.

Why this part is needed

Knock creates sharp vibration waves that can harm pistons, rings, bearings, and head gasket. This sensor helps the ECU keep power and fuel economy while preventing expensive internal wear.

How it works

Inside is a piezoelectric element that converts engine block vibrations into a voltage signal. The ECU filters the signal, detects knock frequency, then adjusts ignition timing (and sometimes fueling) to stop detonation.

What happens if it’s broken

Common symptoms

Fault codes, check engine light, weak acceleration, higher fuel use, rough running, or the ECU going into a “safe” timing mode. In worst cases, real knock may go unnoticed and cause severe engine damage .
