Why you need it

A healthy fan clutch maintains steady coolant temperature, prevents overheating in traffic, and supports strong A/C at idle. It freewheels when the engine is cool to cut drag, then engages when hot air passes through the radiator. That means better efficiency and longer engine life.

How it works ⚙️

Inside is a silicone fluid and a thermal bimetal spring. As radiator air warms up, the spring opens a valve that lets fluid enter the working chamber. Fluid shear couples the fan to the water pump pulley, spinning the fan faster. When temps drop, the valve closes, fluid returns, and the fan slips back to a low speed.

What happens if it fails

Stuck freewheeling: overheating, boiling coolant, weak A/C at idle, risk of warped head and blown gasket. Stuck engaged: loud roaring, poor fuel economy, slow warm‑up, loss of power. Other signs include oily seep (silicone leak),play at the hub, and erratic fan speed.

Tech tips

Install with the shroud removed, torque nuts evenly, verify blade balance and clearance, and inspect the water pump and belt. After service, bleed the cooling system and test for proper hot/cold engagement.
