Engine Timing Crank Sprocket ⚙️

This crankshaft timing sprocket is a key driver in your engine’s valve timing system. It is needed to transfer crankshaft rotation to the timing chain/belt so the camshaft(s) can open and close valves at the exact moment. Without accurate timing, power, economy, and emissions all suffer.

How it works

The sprocket sits on the crank nose and its teeth mesh with the timing chain/belt. As the crank turns, the sprocket keeps the timing system indexed to factory marks, maintaining correct synchronization between pistons and valves.

What happens if it’s worn or damaged

Rounded teeth, wobble, or a loose fit can let the chain/belt slip, causing hard starting, rough idle, loss of power, rattling noise, and check-engine faults. In severe cases, timing can jump far enough to bend valves and damage pistons—turning a small part into a major rebuild.
