Why it’s needed

The crankshaft spins this pulley to drive the alternator, water pump, power steering and A/C. A bonded rubber ring (harmonic balancer) absorbs torsional shock, protecting bearings, belts, and the crank from stress and early wear.

How it works

Keyed to the crank nose, the inner hub and outer ring are joined by elastomer. Multi‑rib grooves guide the serpentine belt, while the damper cancels pulses from each combustion stroke. Result: stable idle, clean belt tracking, and longer accessory life.

If it’s worn or broken ❗

• Squeal, wobble, or cracked rubber ring
• Belt walk-off, charging light on, weak A/C, overheating
• Harsh vibration; in severe cases the belt flies off and the engine can overheat or stall

Pro tips

Inspect belt and tensioner, clean the crank snout, align the keyway, and tighten to spec. Replace the center bolt if required. Always check pulley runout and belt condition after installation.
