How it works

Pressurized oil flows through the rod and forms a hydrodynamic wedge between shell and crank. A soft overlay beds in to tiny imperfections, while the steel/bronze backing carries load. Correct clearance lets the oil film float the rod at speed, cutting friction, heat, and wear.

What happens if it’s broken ⚠️

Failing bearings cause a dull low‑rpm knock, metallic glitter in drained oil, and low idle pressure. Keep driving and a shell can spin, score the crank, bend a rod, or seize the engine—turning a quick bearing job into a full rebuild.
