Why this part is needed 🔧
Bearings center the crankshaft in the block, stabilize rotation, and protect journals with a thin oil film. Correct clearances restore oil pressure, improve lubrication, and prevent metal-to-metal contact under load.
How it works 🛠️
Each shell is a tri-metal layer that rides on pressurized oil. As the crank turns, the oil wedge forms a hydrodynamic film, carrying the load at high RPM. Grooves and holes feed oil to mains and rods for even distribution.
What happens if worn or damaged
Symptoms include cold-start knock, glitter in oil, dropping pressure, and bearing knock under throttle. Left unchecked, journals score, rods blue, and the engine can seize, leading to a full short-block replacement.
Installer notes
Measure journals, select correct grades, clean saddles, use assembly lube, torque caps in sequence, and verify clearance with plastigage. Prime the oiling system before first start.
