Camshaft position sensor – precise valve timing, smooth power ️

Why you need it

This CMP sensor tells the ECU the exact cam angle, so fuel injection and spark happen at the right moment. Correct data keeps cold starts quick, idle steady, throttle response crisp, VVT operation accurate, and emissions low. It’s a small part with a big impact on drivability and economy.

How it works

A Hall-effect element reads a trigger on the camshaft and outputs a clean square‑wave signal. The ECU compares this with the crank signal to sync cylinders, control variable cam timing, and protect the engine at high RPM. Built to OEM standards, the body seals against oil, heat, and vibration for long service life in a tight engine bay.

If the sensor is failing

Symptoms include hard starting, rough idle, hesitation, misfire, poor MPG, and the check‑engine light with codes like P0340/P0341. VVT errors and limp mode can occur, power drops, and catalytic converter stress increases. Ignore it and you risk stalling and repeated no‑start situations.

Tech tips

  • Install on a cool engine; do not touch the magnetic tip.
  • Verify harness and connector seal; clean any oil wicking.
  • After fitting, clear codes and perform idle relearn.
