Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
This sensor is a small but critical guard for your engine lubrication system ?οΈ. It is needed to monitor oil pressure in real time and warn the driver (or ECU) when pressure drops below a safe level. Good oil pressure means bearings, camshafts, and turbo (if fitted) stay protected from metal-to-metal contact.
How It Works
The sensor reads oil gallery pressure and converts it into an electrical signal. That signal triggers the dash warning lamp or feeds the engine control system for protection strategies. When pressure changes, the internal diaphragm and switch/element react instantly, keeping the feedback accurate βοΈ.
What Happens If It Fails
A faulty sensor can cause false oil warnings, no warning at all, or unstable readings. If real low pressure is missed, the engine may run dry on key areas, leading to noisy lifters, overheating, bearing damage, and in worst cases total engine failure ?. Oil leaks around the sensor body can also appear if the sealing area is damaged.
