Front Wheel Hub Snap Ring (Retaining Circlip) ?
This small retaining ring is a critical safety part that locks the front wheel hub/bearing assembly in its bore.
It is needed to keep the bearing seated at the correct depth, so the hub stays aligned and the wheel rotates true.
Even though it looks simple, it supports stable braking, accurate steering, and long bearing life.
How It Works ⚙️
The ring snaps into a machined groove inside the hub/knuckle. Once installed, it creates a hard stop that prevents
the bearing from walking sideways under cornering loads, pothole impacts, and heat expansion. It also helps the press-fit
bearing maintain constant preload and prevents unwanted movement that can damage the hub and ABS tone components.
Signs of Failure & What Happens If Broken ?
If the ring is bent, stretched, rusty, or not fully seated, the bearing can creep out of position. That can cause wheel
play, humming/roaring noise, uneven tire wear, ABS warnings, brake rotor rubbing, and in severe cases hub separation risk.
Always replace with the correct size and tension ring during bearing service—reusing a fatigued circlip is a common comeback.
