Manual Transmission Input Shaft Bearing

This precision bearing supports the gearbox input shaft so it can spin smoothly at engine speed while staying perfectly aligned. It’s a small part with a big job: it keeps the clutch-to-transmission power flow stable, quiet, and efficient βš™οΈ.

Why this part is needed

Inside a manual transmission, the input shaft carries torque into the gear sets. The bearing holds the shaft on-center and reduces friction, preventing metal-to-metal contact and heat build-up.

How it works

Hardened steel balls/rollers run between inner and outer races. As the shaft rotates, the bearing rolls instead of slides, cutting drag and keeping the shaft true even under load, acceleration, and gear changes.

What happens if it’s worn or broken

A failing bearing commonly causes whining or rumbling that changes with clutch use and vehicle speed. Continued driving may lead to hard shifting, gear wear, oil contamination with metal, and in worst cases shaft misalignment that damages synchros and gears ❗.

Key benefits

  • Smoother shifting feel
  • Lower gearbox noise
  • Better shaft alignment and longer transmission life

Compatibility

  • Mitsubishi L200
