Engine Crank Angle Sensor
This sensor is a key input for the engine control unit. It tells the ECU the exact position and speed of the crankshaft, so the engine can fire the spark and inject fuel at the right moment โ๏ธ. Without this signal, timing becomes guesswork, and modern engines simply wonโt run correctly.
Why this part is needed
Accurate crank position data is required for stable starting, smooth idle, clean acceleration, and proper fuel economy. It also helps the ECU detect misfires and protect the catalytic converter.
How it works
The sensor reads a toothed wheel/trigger pattern on the crankshaft. As teeth pass the sensor tip, it generates a pulsed signal. The ECU counts these pulses to know crank angle and RPM, then controls ignition and injection timing in real time .
What happens if itโs broken
Common results include no-start, sudden stalling when hot, rough idle, hesitation, poor power, higher fuel use, and a check engine light. In some cases the engine may crank but never catch because the ECU canโt sync timing .
