Manual Gearbox Reverse Light Switch ?
This small but critical switch is fitted on the manual transmission and tells the car when reverse gear is selected. It is needed to activate the reverse lamps instantly, improving safety when backing up at night, in tight yards, or busy streets.
How It Works βοΈ
When you move the gear lever into reverse, an internal plunger/ball inside the switch is pushed by the gearbox selector mechanism. That movement closes an electrical circuit and sends power to the reverse light circuit. Once you leave reverse, the contact opens and the lamps turn off.
What Happens If It Fails β
A worn or contaminated switch may cause reverse lights not to come on, stay on all the time, or flicker with vibration. Besides being unsafe, it can lead to inspection failure and increase the risk of minor accidents when others canβt see you reversing. In some cases, poor contact can create heat at the connector and damage the plug.
Why Replace It β
Replacing a weak reverse switch restores proper signaling, keeps wiring protected, and brings back reliable operation with every shift.
