    Front Differential Pinion Bearing — OEM ref MR446897

    This precision bearing supports the drive pinion in the front differential of Mitsubishi 4x4s. It keeps the pinion gear perfectly aligned with the ring gear, holds the correct preload, and reduces friction under heavy torque. Built from hardened steel, it runs in diff oil and is engineered for long, quiet service on- and off-road.

    Why this part is needed

    Without a healthy pinion bearing, the gear mesh shifts, noise rises, and the differential heats up. This bearing stabilizes axial and radial loads from the propshaft so the drivetrain stays smooth and efficient.

    How it works

    A tapered-roller design carries thrust and side loads. Preload is set by shims or a crush sleeve to maintain tight, precise contact. Correct preload ensures silent operation and protects gears, seal, and oil.

    What happens if it fails

    • Whine or howl on accel/decel
    • Vibration through floor and steering
    • Oil leak at pinion seal due to wobble
    • Metal flakes in diff oil
    • Rapid ring/pinion wear, possible lock-up

    Tech notes

    Always set preload with an inch‑lb torque wrench, renew the pinion seal and crush sleeve, and fill with correct GL-5 oil. After install, road test and recheck for noise. Crosses to OEM code MR446897.
