Steering Tie Rod End Assembly for Mitsubishi
This steering joint is a key link between the steering rack/center link and the front wheel knuckle. It is needed to keep your wheels pointing where the steering wheel commands, while still allowing suspension movement over bumps.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the housing sits a hardened steel ball-and-socket joint. As you turn the wheel, the rod pushes or pulls the knuckle, changing toe angle smoothly. A protective rubber boot holds grease in and keeps water and dust out, so the joint can pivot freely without grinding.
Signs of Wear & What Happens If It Breaks ❗
When the joint loosens, you may notice wandering steering, uneven tire wear, shaking, or a knocking sound on rough roads. If the boot tears, grease escapes and the joint wears fast. A severely worn joint can cause poor alignment and unsafe handling, and in extreme cases may separate, risking loss of steering control.
