Steering Idler Arm Kit for Mitsubishi SUVs
Why this part is needed
The idler arm supports the center link on the passenger side, mirroring the pitman arm. It keeps the steering geometry true, holds road alignment, and reduces play in the front linkage. A fresh idler arm restores precise steering response, straight-line stability, and even tire wearβideal for lifted, loaded, or off-road driven vehicles.
How it works
This kit includes the arm, bracket, and pivot joint. The bracket bolts to the chassis; the arm carries the center link at the correct height. A hardened pivot with bushings/bearing allows smooth up-down movement while resisting side load. Proper lubrication (often via a grease nipple) keeps the joint tight and quiet. Together with the pitman arm and tie rods, it translates steering wheel input into controlled wheel angle.
What happens if itβs broken or worn
Symptoms include loose steering, pull or wander, clunks on bumps, shimmy, and uneven tire wear. Excess play hammers tie rods and the center link, raising repair costs. In severe cases the vehicle can dart under braking or over ruts, risking loss of control. Replacing a sloppy idler arm restores firm on-center feel and predictable handling
