EGR Exhaust Manifold Pipe
This metal pipe links the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve path, guiding a measured flow of exhaust gas back into the intake. It is needed to cut NOx emissions, support stable combustion, and help the engine run cleaner under light and mid load conditions ?.
How it works
Hot exhaust leaves the manifold and travels through this pipe in a controlled route. When the ECU commands EGR, the valve opens and the gas passes through the pipe, mixing with fresh air. This lowers peak combustion temperature, reducing knock tendency and keeping emissions systems working as designed.
What happens if itβs broken
Cracks, rust-through, or leaking joints can cause ticking sounds, soot marks, exhaust smell in the bay, rough idle, poor response, higher fuel use, and EGR flow fault codes. A bad leak may overheat nearby hoses/wiring and can trigger limp mode. Replace it if you see carbon streaks, warped flanges, or damaged sealing faces ?.
