Engine Oxygen Feedback Sensor
This sensor is a key input for the ECU to keep the air–fuel mix correct during daily driving. It “sniffs” the oxygen left in the exhaust stream and sends a fast voltage signal back to the engine computer. The ECU then adjusts injector pulse and trims fuel delivery to hit clean burn targets, better throttle response, and safer catalytic converter operation.
Why this part is needed ✅
Modern Mitsubishi engines rely on closed-loop fuel control. Without accurate oxygen feedback, the ECU can’t fine-tune mixture under cruise and idle, which directly affects emissions and fuel economy.
How it works ⚙️
A heated sensing element reaches operating temperature quickly, then measures oxygen difference between exhaust gas and outside air. The changing signal tells the ECU if the mixture is rich or lean, allowing constant micro-corrections.
What happens if it fails ❌
Expect rough idle, higher fuel consumption, hesitation, failed emissions tests, and possible catalytic converter damage. The check engine light may appear with mixture or sensor-heater fault codes.
