Engine Oil Pickup Strainer – Protects Your Lubrication System ️

This oil pickup strainer sits inside the sump and feeds the oil pump with clean lubricant. Its fine metal mesh traps sludge, seal crumbs, and metal flakes before they can enter the pump and bearings. Without it, abrasive particles recirculate, scratching journals and accelerating wear. It helps keep stable pressure, quiet operation, and long engine life. OE ref: MN158468.

Why you need it

Fresh, filtered oil is vital to crankshaft, camshaft, and lifters. The strainer prevents debris from blocking the pump, reduces cavitation risk, and supports consistent pressure during hard braking, cornering, or cold starts.

How it works βš™οΈ

Mounted low in the oil pan, the strainer connects to the pickup tube. As the pump draws oil, the mesh screen filters particles while the body maintains flow. Correct immersion level ensures the pump never sucks air, even when oil sloshes.

What happens if it’s broken ⚠️

Clogged mesh or a cracked pickup starves the pump: oil light flickers, valve train ticks, pressure drops, and bearings overheat. Prolonged driving can spin bearings or seize the engine. You may notice metallic glitter in oil, rough idle, and rattle on cold start.

Service tips ️

Always clean the pan, renew O-ring/gasket, check clearances, and torque fasteners. Use correct oil grade and prime the pump after installation.
