Manual Gearbox Upper Shaft Seal Ring οΈ
This seal ring is a small but critical barrier inside the manual transmission. Its main job is to keep gear oil exactly where it belongsβaround the upper/input shaft areaβso the gearbox stays lubricated, quiet, and protected under load.
Why this part is needed β
Manual transmissions rely on a steady oil film to prevent metal-to-metal contact. A healthy seal ring supports correct oil retention and helps stop leaks that can contaminate the clutch area or attract dirt around the shaft opening.
How it works βοΈ
The ring sits in its seat around the shaft and seals against rotating surfaces. As the shaft spins, the seal edge maintains contact and controls oil splash and pressure changes, keeping lubrication stable during acceleration, shifting, and long highway runs.
What happens if itβs worn or broken β
If the seal ring hardens, cracks, or loses tension, oil can seep out. Low oil level leads to hot running, rough shifting, bearing noise, and premature gear wear. In severe cases, the clutch may get oil contamination and the transmission can fail internally.
