Why you need this part
This precision Oβring seals the joint between the intake manifold and the cylinder head/runner, keeping the air path airtight. A proper seal stabilizes idle, preserves fuel economy, and protects power. Without it, unmetered air sneaks in, the mixture goes lean, boost can leak (on turbo models), and drivability suffers.
How it works
The round elastomer compresses under bolt torque, filling microβgaps and tracking heat cycles. Its profile maintains clamping force through vibration and temperature swings, keeping vacuum steady from cold start to wideβopen throttle. The material resists fuel, oil, and ozone for long service life.
What happens if it fails
Flattened, cut, or hardened rings cause vacuum leaks: rough/unstable idle, hissing, sluggish throttle, high fuel trims, misfires, and lean codes (e.g., P0171). On boosted engines, expect whistle and lost boost. Prolonged leaks can overheat valves, foul plugs, trigger Check Engine, and even limp mode.
Install tips β
Clean grooves and mating faces, check for warpage, fit the ring dry or lightly oiled (no RTV), then torque bolts in sequence to spec and recheck after a heat cycle.
