This precision main bearing supports the crankshaft at the blockβs center, keeping the rotating assembly straight and oil pressure stable. Itβs vital for quiet operation, smooth power, and long engine life.
Why this part is needed
It holds correct clearance, reduces friction, and controls heat. By centering the crank, it prevents misalignment and crank walk, protecting journals during cold starts, towing, and high loads.
How it works
Two half shells with steel backing and triβmetal overlay form a round, lowβfriction surface. Engine oil feeds through grooves and holes to build a hydrodynamic film that floats the crankshaft. On many Mitsubishi engines the center position also manages thrust, keeping axial play in spec.
