6th–7th Gear Synchronizer Ring for Mitsubishi Manual Gearbox ⚙️

Why this part is needed

This precision ring ensures smooth, quiet shifts into the top gears. It matches the speed of the gear and the main shaft so the sleeve engages without grinding. Healthy synchros protect dog teeth, reduce shift effort, and extend gearbox life—especially at highway speeds where 6th and 7th are used most.

How it works

The ring has a conical friction face (often brass or sintered alloy) that grips the gear cone when the shift fork moves the hub sleeve. Friction equalizes RPMs; then the dog teeth align and lock the gear. Micro-grooves and precise taper angle provide quick bite, heat control, and repeatable engagement.

What happens if it’s worn or broken ❗

Symptoms include grinding into 6th/7th, hard engagement, pop-out under load, rev flare on downshift, and metallic glitter in oil. Continued use can round dog teeth, damage the hub/sleeve, overheat cones, and send debris through bearings.

Replacement & tips

Replace as a pair for overdrive gears; inspect hub, sleeve, keys, and springs. Measure cone clearance with a feeler gauge. Pre-lube with quality GL-4 oil (avoid aggressive additives). Verify orientation and torque specs. Choose OE-spec material for durability and crisp shifts.
