Pilot Bearing for Manual Gearbox Main Shaft (Mitsubishi)
This precision pilot bearing supports the tip of the manual gearbox input shaft where it meets the engine crank. It keeps the shaft perfectly centered, cuts vibration, and lets the clutch disengage smoothly. Built for tough daily use, it helps the transmission shift cleanly and protects gears and synchronizers. βοΈ
Why you need it
Without a healthy pilot bearing, the input shaft can wobble. That causes noisy operation, clutch chatter, hard gear engagement, and rapid wear of the front transmission bearings and seals.
How it works
Pressed into the crankshaft or flywheel, the bearingβs outer race stays fixed while the inner race supports the shaft tip. When you press the clutch, the input shaft spins inside the bearing with minimal friction, thanks to sealed lubrication and hardened rollers.
What happens if it fails β
Signs include squeal or chirp with the clutch pedal depressed, rough idle vibration, grinding when selecting first or reverse, and metal dust near the bellhousing. Continued use can score the shaft, overheat the clutch hub, and damage the transmission front bearing.
Build, fitment, and tips
Heat-treated races, precision rollers, and factory pre-lube ensure long life. Replace during any clutch job. Clean the bore, use a proper driver, verify shaft tip size, lightly lube the tip (not the bore), align the clutch, and torque to spec. β
