This unit keeps the timing chain tight and the valve timing precise. It is built for tough Mitsubishi pickups and SUVs, working perfectly in hot roads, cold starts, and dusty trails. The body is steel, the plunger is hardened, and the lock ratchet prevents chain slack even when oil pressure drops. ⛓️
Why you need it
A tight chain keeps cam and crank in sync. That means smooth idle, clean power, correct fuel burn, and long engine life. A good tensioner also stops start‑up rattle and protects guides and sprockets from shock wear.
How it works
Engine oil feeds a small chamber. Pressure pushes a spring-backed plunger against the chain guide. A one-way valve holds oil in, and a step ratchet locks the plunger so it can extend but cannot retract under load. The result: stable chain tension at all RPM.
What happens if it fails ⚠️
Signs include cold rattle, metallic ticking, rough idle, loss of power, and higher fuel use. If the plunger sticks or bleeds down, the chain can jump a tooth. Severe cases bend valves, mark pistons, and damage the head—very costly repair.
