Why your engine needs it ️
In Mitsubishi engines with counter-rotating balance shafts, this precision plate locks the shaft in position, sets thrust clearance, and helps control oil flow. It keeps the balance system aligned so the crank sees fewer secondary forces, giving smooth idle and reduced cabin buzz.
How it works
The plate bolts to the block over the balancer shaft journal. Its hardened face becomes the thrust surface, limiting axial movement to spec and keeping gear/belt mesh true. Accurate flatness and oiling holes stabilize the shaft at all RPM, protecting bearings and the timing drive.
If worn or broken
Expect harsh vibration at 1,500–3,000 rpm, rattles, premature timing belt/chain wear, oil seep around the front cover, and metallic dust in oil. Severe play lets the shaft “walk,” chewing gears or jumping timing—risking major engine damage.
Tech tips
Replace during balance-shaft or timing service. Clean mating faces, verify endplay, use new bolts if stretched, apply thread locker where specified, torque in sequence, and pre‑lube the thrust face. Always recheck smooth rotation.
