Timing Chain Loose-Side Guide for Mitsubishi Engines
This timing chain guide controls the slack side of the chain, keeping engine timing accurate and quiet. It supports the chain between crankshaft and camshaft, cutting rattle, wear, and risk of timing jump. Ideal for Mitsubishi SUVs and pickups that work hard on road and off-road.
Why you need it ⚙️
Without a healthy guide, the chain can whip under load or at start-up. The guide stabilizes the chain path, works with the hydraulic tensioner, and reduces friction. It protects sprockets, seals, and the chain itself for long engine life.
How it works
A steel backbone with a low-friction wear face sits on the slack side. The tensioner presses the curved guide, taking up play as oil pressure rises. The chain glides on the guide surface, staying aligned so cam and crank stay in perfect sync.
If the guide is worn or broken ⚠️
Expect cold-start rattle, constant ticking, poor power, misfire, or check engine light. Plastic/metal debris may show in the oil. In severe cases the chain can jump teeth, causing hard start or no start, bent valves, or piston damage.
Tech tips
Replace the guide together with chain and tensioner as a set. Use quality oil and correct torque on bolts. Inspect sprockets for grooves. Early replacement prevents costly top-end repairs.
