Crankshaft Pulley Center Bolt
This fastener is a small but critical engine safety part. It clamps the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer tightly to the crank nose, keeping the belt drive perfectly aligned. Without correct clamping force, the pulley can shift, wobble, or slip under load.
Why this part is needed β
The crank pulley transfers engine rotation to the alternator, power steering pump, and A/C via the drive belt. The center bolt provides the exact holding tension that prevents movement during rapid acceleration, braking, and high-RPM vibration.
How it works βοΈ
When torqued to specification, the bolt stretches slightly and acts like a spring, maintaining constant pressure on the pulley stack. This keeps timing marks accurate and protects the keyway and crank snout from impact wear.
What happens if itβs broken or loose β
You may hear knocking or squealing, see belt misalignment, or feel vibration at idle. Continued driving can damage the pulley, crankshaft threads, front oil seal, or even cause belt loss and charging/overheating problems.
